Pottery Making and the Hanley Swan Post-Excavation Session
An opportunity for those of you who didn’t get to the craft session last November to make a Roman pot for firing in a kiln later in the year. Emma will also do a post-excavation session on the Hanley Swan dig. So come along to find out the story of this intriguing site. Have a look at all the artefacts and pottery that were found and look at how we recorded the site.

A visit to the Record Office at County Hall followed by an exploratory visit to nearby Nunnery Wood.

A Visit to the Castle at Elmley Castle on Bredon Hill
We will walk up hill to the earthwork remains of an Iron Age hillfort and Norman and medieval castle site. We will try and work out from the remains what the castle might have looked like and see if we can sort out the dates of the Iron Age and medieval ramparts.

A Visit to Bewdley Museum and Town Walk
Bewdley Museum has lots to offer and focuses on the many crafts and industries associated with its past as a busy port on the River Severn in the 18th century and includes a rope-walk. The town itself is full of historic buildings and interesting river frontage, old streets and alleyways.

A Visit to the Deserted Medieval Village & Church at Grafton Flyford.
After a tour of this fascinating abandoned landscape we will be carrying out a variety of archaeological activities based on the medieval period. This will be both an indoor event (in nearby village hall) and outdoor (activities around the deserted village and church).
June

A visit to the Iron Age hillfort at Midsummer Hill to discover the secrets of this ancient site and the interesting geology of the Malvern Hills.
On the way up the Malvern Hills we will find out about its unusual geology. We will then examine the earthworks of this very special Iron Age hillfort, which is divided by a tree filled ravine and contains the site of a possible sacred(?) spring. The impressive Red Earl’s or Shire Ditch crosses the site and is still the county boundary.

October
Sunday 14th (time TBA)
A walk through time at Perdiswell, Worcester
We will be looking at the results of excavation, aerial photographs and documentary evidence, which over the years have identified a Bronze Age ring ditch and barrow, a Roman settlement and a medieval manor. Coming right up to date, Perdiswell was Britain's first local authority airport and a prisoner of war camp during World War II.'
November
Sunday 18 (time TBA)
A visit to Alcester Heritage Centre and Historic Town
Alcester (pronounced ‘Olster’ or ‘Aulster’) is on the site of a Roman town and due to several archaeology excavations is one of the best understood Roman settlements in the country. The Heritage Centre contains an excellent collection of artefacts. The medieval street pattern is still very much intact and is well worth exploring as part of this visit.
December
Sunday 9th (time TBA)
World War II Evacuee Christmas Party
A fancy dress party, which will really challenge your costume making skills! This time period was a special request from our members – so we know who to blame if we don’t like the Spam sandwiches and jelly with condensed milk!
PLEASE NOTE: WE HOPE TO DO A FIELDWALK IN THE SPRING AND/OR THE AUTUMN. THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS AND WE WILL SEND OUT THE INFORMATION AS SOON AS THE FARMERS LET US KNOW THEY HAVE PLOUGHED THEIR FIELDS.
