The first meeting of 2006 kicked off at Worcester City Museum which is above the city library.
There were four activities, with club members being split into small groups for each one. The highlight was looking behind the scenes of the museum in their main store, where objects and artefacts are stored that cannot or have yet to be displayed in the museum. Most of the items were connected with social history and more recent times as the archaeological material had been moved to the main county store at Hartlebury. We were shown how the items were correctly stored and catalogued and told why this was so important.
Next we had a quick look around the museum. It is not that big and consisted of one room containing material from some of Worcester's industries ( porcelain, Worcester Sauce, Shoe Making etc)
Then there was a room containing an exhibition of the Deansway Excavation which took place in the city in the 1980's, where the Crowngate shopping arcades are today. Finally there is the Worcester Military History exhibition, a new addition and very well presented, detailing the history of the Worcestershire Regiment.
While refreshments were had, we looked at a number of 'Mystery Objects' from the museum, and had to try and guess what they are.
Finally (and most enjoyably) we were all given a object for which we had to record its details on the museum accession forms. We then had to prepare a label for it and present it in a display cabinet for the general public to see!
